THINGS WE THOUGHT WE WANTED TO DO BUT REALLY DIDN’T

Michael Jordan’s son, Jeff announced on June 24th that he is quitting basketball at the University of Illinois to concentrate on his academic activities there.  Jeff was expected to play a significant role on the basketball team there as a junior there this fall.  So, clearly he could play the game well enough if he wanted to.  Obviously, his was just another case of thinking you want to do something but having a change of heart about it after you actually do it.

This brings to mind the idea of “The Things We Thought We Wanted to Do, But, in the end, Really Didn’t.  Whether it was playing an instrument, bungee jumping, or playing professional sports, we’ve all thought we wanted to do something only to find out it wasn’t all you thought it would be.

For me, it was para-sailing.  It looked so peaceful and like so much fun until I did it.  I didn’t know I was that afraid of heights until I para-sailed.  Now it’s just one of the many things I’ve checked off my list of things to do and that list gets longer and longer the older I get.  Consider making your own list of the things your listeners have checked off of their “to do” lists because they’ve been there, done it and they’re not going back again.
