PLEASE TAKE MY CHILDREN TO WORK DAYJune 29th is “Please Take My Children To Work Day”, a holiday for beleaguered part-time and full-time stay-at-home mothers who need a day of from their kids. Moms around the world are encouraged to take the day off, or at least part of it, by finding a relative, neighbor, friend, or babysitter to take care of the kids. This is an official holiday in six states, Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Michigan, Nebraska and Wisconsin. Here are some things you might do on the air to mark this holiday. First of all, if it is not an official holiday in your state, consider launching a campaign to get a local political figure to declare it one in your city or state. Arrange an interview with that political figure where you ask him or her to draft a proclamation declaring this an official holiday. You could also mark Please Take My Children To Work Day by coming up with a list of things the moms should not do on this day like: 1. See a movie that’s animated with talking animals or robots. 2. Go to a restaurant that provides crayons and paper mats to draw on. 3. Drop by Chuck E Cheese just because they know you by name. 4. Test the Spanish you learned on Dora, the Explorer. You could also reverse this and come up with a list of the things moms should do on this day like: 1. Have long, uninterrupted conversations with grownups, and not about potty training. 2. Read a book that doesn’t rhyme 3. Watch those TV shows your TV’s child blocker filters out. 4. Eat food that doesn’t come with a free toy. 5. Shave both legs on the same day. If you want to be really adventurous, consider having one of the guys on the show bring his kids into the studio that day. Give them copy to read, put together father/child competitions based on the show Who’s Smarter Than a 5th Grader, or just have others on the show ask the children embarrassing questions about dad. |
