THE BEST TASTING HOT DOGS

July is National Hot Dog Month, a time to celebrate the more than 9 billion hot dogs we consume in America every year.  In honor of that Real Simple magazine staffers taste tested 73 varieties of hot dogs from meat to veggie varieties and came up with their list of the best tasting ones in each category.   Here is their list of their favorite hot dogs:

Best Beef:  Nathan’s Skinless Beef Franks

Best Pork and Beef:  Boar’s Head Pork and Beef Frankfurters

Best Uncured:  Applegate Farms Organic Uncured Beef Hot Dogs

Best Turkey:  Oscar Mayer Turkey Franks – Tasters said this one tastes just like beef or pork with a little ketchup and mustard.  More about this later.

Best Chicken:  Applegate Farms Uncured Chicken Hot Dogs

Best Vegetarian:  Morningstar Farms Original Veggie Dogs

You could use this list as a starting point for some fun creative tension on your morning show.  Have one member of the show claim that one of the non-meat hot dogs tastes as good as its meatier counterparts, then have someone else take the position that the only hot dog worth eating has to be made of beef or pork.  Resolve the conflict by giving the meat eater a blind hot dog taste test to determine if he or she can be fooled into thinking one of the non-meat dogs is meat based.
