THAT REALLY LIGHTS MY CANDLE!

As a little twist to the notion of fireworks on the 4th of July, think about doing the topic “That Really Light My Candle”. The idea here is to solicit the audience for the little things in life that really tick us off. These are the kind of things that shouldn’t bother us, but we can’t help but be annoyed by them.

Suggest examples so that the calls you get are about the “little” world and not the “big” world. The big world is all about war, politics, race and other touchy subjects. The litte world is all about people who drive slowly in the passing lane, retail employees who follow you all over the store like stalkers and grocery store express lane checkers who move in slow motion. Those are the kinds of petty annoyances that really light our candles!

You could use fireworks sound effects to support this idea on the air. Also make a list of the top three to five biggest “candle-lighters” and reveal them in the last break of the bit and be sure to post the results on your website.
