HOTEL OFFERS A “SURVIVOR” EXPERIENCERancho Bernardo, a luxury resort in San Diego with three pools, a spa and golf course, typically charges more than $200 a room. This summer, when business was down, the resort offered a “Survivor Package” that charged guests less for each amenity they gave up. For $19, guests gave up breakfast, air conditioning, lights, toilet paper, sheets and even the bed. The staff removed the mattress and headboard and left a small tent instead. This made me think why aren’t there hotels that offer ala carte-type room payment options? It might be just the stimulus plan the sagging hotel industry needs! For example, I could easily do without those little bottles of shampoo, conditioner and mouthwash if they’d take some significant money off of my bill. How about giving me a break on my bill if I stay in the room across from the elevator or ice machine? I could easily pack my own wash cloth or even towels if they’d knock say $25 off each night’s stay. “What You Would Give Up To Get a Better Deal At a Hotel?” |
