THEY OUGHT TO COLLECT A TOLL FOR THAT

On November 19th, 1954 the first automatic toll collection machine was installed on New Jersey’s Garden State Parkway.  In order to have the privilege of driving on the parkway, motorists had to drop 25 cents into a wire mesh hopper and a green light would flash letting them know they were free to pass on.

This brings to mind the topic of toll collection in general.  There are so many little things in life that should cost people a toll. “They Ought to Collect a Toll for That!” For example, I think there should be a toll assessed on my hometown NFL team when they lose that is passed along to the fans.  When they lose it ruins my day and a little toll money would make me feel so much better about them.  How about one for people who still write checks in grocery store lines?  Hello?  Haven’t your heard they’ve invented debit cards?  And I’d like a toll assessed on anyone who forwards me chain email.
