Apparently the weak economy had a big impact on marriage. The last year the U.S. divorce rate was as high as it was in 2008 was 1970.

Even the rich were not immune from the effects of the economic downturn. Poor Hugh Hefner had to sell his California home for 36% less than the asking price. The 7,300 square-foot, 5-bedroom, 2-bath house on 2.3 acres had been listed for $27,995,000 but Hugh was forced to sell it for a paltry $18 million.
