THE MOST VALUABLE BRANDS IN THE WORLD

Every year, towards the end of the year, the brand value of companies around the world are assessed.  This year the top five most valuable brands were also the top five in the same order of rank in 2008.  Those brands are 1. Coca-Cola, 2. IBM, 3. Microsoft, 4. General Electric and 5. Nokia.

This year’s sixth most valuable global brand was McDonald’s up from eighth last year.  Google’s brand value jumped up the most significantly from 2008 to 2009 growing 25% and moving from 10th to 7th on the annual list.  Toyota slipped from 6th to 8th on the list this year, Intel went from 7th to 9th and media giant Disney came in at 10th slipping from the 9th spot in 2008.

Not surprisingly, some of the biggest losers in brand value from 2008 to 2009 were in the financial sector.  American Express lost 32% of its brand value dropping it from 15th to 22nd and Citi Group lost 49% of its value plummeting it from the 19th place on list last year to 36th this year.
