THOSE BURGERS IN FAST-FOOD COMMERCIALS MAY NOT BE REAL

I’m sure you’ve noticed that the fast-food burgers you see in TV ads are always more beautiful than the ones you actually get at the counter.  Food stylists have always used tricks to make burgers look more tasty on television like painting the meat with brown food coloring, Superglueing sesame seeds on the buns and spraying the entire thing with waterproof spray.  But now fast-food meals are being styled on a whole new level. Some are digital creations using technology that big-budget animated movies use.

Animators at the special effects studio Branit/vfx are creating McDonald’s value meals by “wrapping” photos of the food around computer-generated 3-D models.   Essentially they rebuild the burgers sesame seed by sesame seed.  Animators swoop cameras through packages of fries or spin burgers around without worrying that they’ll fly apart – moves that would be impossible with real food.  Best of all, unlike at a traditional photo shoot, they don’t have to worry if the cheese is melting under the hot lights.
