CELEBRITIES WHO STARTED ON SOAP OPERAS

Many of today’s big celebrities got their big breaks on soap operas.  But, over the past few years, audiences for most daytime television soap operas have been declining raising the question, will the medium survive the next decade?  If the soap opera becomes a thing of the past, where will the next generation of stars get their big break?  Here are 7 celebrities we might not know today if not for TV soap operas.

1.  Demi Moore – From 1982 to 1983 Demi played reporter Jackie Templeton on General Hospital.

2.  Ricky Martin – He played a Latino singer from 1994 to 1995 on General Hospital.

3.  Meg Ryan – Meg played Betsy Stewart from 1982 to 1984 on As the World Turns.

4.  Kevin Bacon – He was first on Search For Tomorrow in 1979 and then from 1980 to 1981 he played a troubled teen on Guiding Light.

5.  Ray Liotta - Liotta later played a string of tough guys including Henry Hill in Goodfellas, but he started playing the lovable hero Joey Perrini on Another World from 1978 to 1981.

6.  Kelsey Grammer – The Cheers and Frasier star began his career as ER physician Dr. Canard on Another World from 1984 to 1985.

7.  James Earl Jones – Before he was Darth Vader in Star Wars, Jones played doctors in two soap operas – Dr. Jerry Turner on As the World Turns and Dr. Jim Frazier on The Guiding Light both in 1966.
