TOP 7 VALENTINE’S DAY MOVIES

What if you don’t have a date for Valentine’s Day this year but want to experience some romance on Sunday?  Live vicariously through Hollywood!  Consider the topic, “What Are the Most Romantic Movies of All-Time?” Here is my list of the top seven Valentine’s Day movies:

1. Pretty Woman – This is the classic Cinderella story only with prostitutes.  What could be more romantic than a prostitute’s romantic redemption?

2.  Ghost – Okay, so Patrick Swayze is dead for most of the movie, but who lets a little thing like mortality get in the way of true love?

3.  Sleepless in Seattle – How can this one not make a radio person’s list of best romantic films?  Meg Ryan hears Tom Hanks sad story of being a grieving widower on the radio!

4.  Pride and Prejudice - This is my pick for a period movie on the list.  Nothing tugs on the heart strings like love story set in class-conscious England near the close of the 18th century.  This is a classic love story about rich guys and poor girls all trying to find true love.

5.  Titanic - Again, that love-in-a-class-conscious-world thing always gets to me.  Plus it’s a disaster movie too!  Bonus!

6.  Dirty Dancing – This one’s on my list for a lot of reasons, not the least of which, is the final dance scene and famous lift.  And. Patrick Swayze’s line “Nobody puts baby in the corner.” is one of the most memorable in Hollywood history.

7.  The Notebook – I think this may be the biggest tearjerker in film history.  A properly raised Southern girl, Allie played by Rachel McAdams, is forced to be separated from her first true love, Noah played by Ryan Gosline, because he is not up to her family’s standards.  However, do they forever remain separated?  We get that story from the geriatric versions of both of them played by Gena Rowlands and James Garner.

Consider coming up with your own list of the most romantic Valentine’s Day movies and then open up the phones to get your listeners’ takes on what should be where on the final list.
