IS THE FIVE-SECOND RULE VALID?

Many of us go by the rule that says if food drops on the floor and is only there for five seconds or less, it’s safe to pick it up and eat it.  In fact, 53% of Americans believe if you drop anything from hot dogs to ice cream to toast on the floor and get it up in under five seconds it’s safe to eat.  Well, now studies show that this may, in fact, be okay.  The majority of foods can stay on the floor for up to thirty seconds without being contaminated by bacteria.
