WHAT IS LOWERING THE CRIME RATE?

According to FBI reports, crime rates around the country are steadily dropping and it has nothing to do with any changes in law enforcement. Experts say the recent decline in crime may be in part the result of psychiatric medication. Because many violent criminals suffer from mental illness increased treatment and awareness have helped prevent crimes.

Over a 10-year survey period, drops in violent crime followed increases in psychopharmaceutical prescriptions. One expert says just a 10% increase in prescriptions for these drugs could decrease the national violent crime rate enough to prevent 10,000 violent crimes nationwide per year.
