NON-SPORTS FANS NEED TO KNOW THE RULES OF WATCHING SPORTS ON TELEVISIONOn May 17, 1939, the first ever televised sporting event aired. The Columbia Lions and the Princeton Tigers played a collegiate baseball game for the first time on television. For over 70 years now, sports widows have been complaining about their significant others’ lack of attention during games and sports fans have been trying to figure out how to train them to not interrupt the game. One thing I’ve noticed about trying to watch a game with non-sports fans is their incredibly bad timing about when they talk. You can pretty much count on them distracting you just before the game-winning home run is hit or a game-turning interception gets thrown in football. So, this year, I’m thinking of handing out a set of rules to any non-sports fan who sets foot in my house when there is a televised sporting event on my television. Here are my Five Rules For Watching Sports on Television With Non-Sports Fans. First the no-brainers that I shouldn’t have to even state are rules for non-sports fans watching sports with me. Rule #1: Speak to me only during commercials. Rule #2: Never walk in front of the TV screen when a game is on. Now for the less obvious, but vital rules for non-sports fans in my house during televised sports. Rule #3: Don’t feign interest and ask me how the game is played if you really don’t care. Just go do something else. Rule #4: If you’re offended by being ignored when you speak to me, never come to my house when a game is on. Rule #5: Never tell me why you like my team’s rival. I don’t care how awesome you think Brett Farve is. He plays for the enemy. Consider adding your own rules to this list and then open up the phones. Try to create your own list of the Top 5 Rules Non-Sports Fans Should Know When They Watch Sports With Fans. You must be logged in to post a comment.
