WHAT DO HIGH SCHOOL KIDS REALLY KNOW?

As much as we may try to educate our kids, they still know more about pop culture than they do about the American system of government and history.  A recent survey of American high school students revealed that more of them could tell you the name of the city that corresponds to the zip code 90210 than could recite the first three words of the constitution.  75.2% of those surveyed could identify Beverly Hills, California as the city with the zip code 90210 while only 35.5% could come up with the words “We the People”.  Here are a few other findings in the High School Knowledge Survey:

21.5% knew the Constitution was written in Philadelphia.

71.2% knew that www are the first three letters of almost all web site addresses.

21.2% knew that each state is represented in the U.S. Senate by two senators.

81.2% knew how many members there are in the band Hanson.

41.2% could name the three branches of the U.S. government.

58.3% identified Bill Gates as the founder of Microsoft

59.2% could name the Three Stooges.
