MY PARENTS LET ME PLAY WITH FIREWORKS

Fireworks are illegal for private citizens to own in most states. You can buy just about any kind of fireworks in 22 states - Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming. That means for most of us, if we want to procure fireworks we’ve got to cross state lines to buy them and hide them somewhere in our cars as we bring them back into our home states. That’s precisely what my parents did every year just before the 4th of July when I was a kid.

Not only did my parents buy us fireworks when my brother and I were as young as 9 years old, they bought us the kind of fireworks you could blow up a building with – M80′s and cherry bombs. Every summer around this time of year my brother and I spent countless, blissful hours blowing up garbage cans in public parks and creating bazookas out of old pipe, some rocks and a couple of M80′s.
