IT’S NATIONAL SPORTS CLICHE WEEK!

This week is officially National Sports Cliche Week, a week set aside to honor the use of sports cliches by athletes, sports announcers and sportswriters.  There are a couple of ways you might be able to make some fun radio with this.

One way would be to schedule an interview with someone and see how many sports cliches you can use while conducting the interview.  The obvious way to go with this would be to do an interview with a local sports figure but it could be even funnier if the interview were with a random author or product-pitcher of some kind.  You could take one step further and stage a competition between two people on your morning show to see which one can work in more sports cliches into his or her interview.

A simpler way to touch on this theme week would be to make a list of the Top 5 Most Overused Sports Cliches.  Mine would be:

1.  There’s no ‘I’ in team.

2.  We’ve got to play them one game at a time.

3.  We need to score more points.

4.  We’ve got to find a way to stop them from scoring.

5.  Leave it all on the field.
