DOES YOUR PET NEED SUNSCREEN?If your pet is spending a lot of time outside this summer, don’t forget the sunscreen. Ironically, some cats and dogs need sunscreen to protect them from skin cancer just like humans. Sunburn is more of a problem for cats. If a cat is burned often it can eventually get skin cancer. Dogs are less likely to sit and soak up the sun, but some are vulnerable. White dogs need to have their hairless areas protected and breeds with short hair, like bull terriers, are susceptible. But, don’t just use any old sunscreen on your pets because they will lick their coats so it has to be safe to ingest. Human sunscreen can contain gross things like zinc, salicylate and PABAs, all which are pretty unpleasant to eat. You must be logged in to post a comment.
