POSSIBLE BACK-TO-SCHOOL PARODY SONG

If you have the heart of a poet or songwriter, here’s an idea for a potentially fun parody song.  Re-write the lyrics to Aretha Franklin’s Chain of Fools using the lyric line “pain of school”.  How good your parody song will or will not turn out is now all up to you.

THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE SINGING TELEGRAM

On July 28, 1933, the first singing telegram was said to have been delivered to singer Rudy Valee on his 32nd birthday.  Early singing telegrams were often delivered in person by uniformed messengers on bicycle.  Later they were usually sung over the telephone.
Of course today the singing telegram has been replaced by “talking” greeting [...]

NATIONAL TELL THE TRUTH DAY

July 7th is National Tell The Truth Day, a day to challenge all Americans to go one whole day without telling a lie and saying anything misleading or dishonest.  You could have some fun with this idea by doing the topic, “The Lie I Told My Parents That I Never Confessed To.”
Solicit your audience [...]

IT’S NATIONAL SPORTS CLICHE WEEK!

This week is officially National Sports Cliche Week, a week set aside to honor the use of sports cliches by athletes, sports announcers and sportswriters.  There are a couple of ways you might be able to make some fun radio with this.

I’D LIKE TO STUFF HIM INTO THAT LEAKING BP OIL PIPE!

The BP oil disaster has all of us feeling angry at those we feel allowed it to happen and the incompetence surrounding the supposed solutions.  I know I’d like to stuff the head of British Petroleum into that leaking oil pipe and see if that might stop the flow.  This brings to mind the topic, [...]

GET ME THE DAY OFF!!!!

It is so hard to concentrate on work on a beautiful summer day.  You can capitalize on that phenomenon by offering to try and get your listeners the day off throughout the summer.
Solicit your listeners to call in and give you their bosses name and phone number.  Then call the bosses and try to [...]

Do you remember what the theme was for your high school prom?  Mine was Camelot in honor of the hit Broadway musical at the time and in remembrance of the late President John F. Kennedy.  Obviously, culturally we are a long way away from either of those events being cutting edge enough to be a [...]

MAKE YOUR OWN COMMENCEMENT ADDRESS

Set forth to write a “real world” commencement address.  Strip it of all of the false promises and usual “the best years of your life are ahead of you” nonsense.  Tell the grads that they’ll get crappy first jobs that pay badly and nobody will respect them until they’re at least 30 and other really [...]

BEHAVIOR THAT DESERVES TO BE TAXED

When you have to pay taxes it can make you downright angry.  Some taxes just don’t seem fair.  I mean shouldn’t it be worth something that you’re a nice, self aware person who always tries to do the right thing?  Why should you have to pay the same amount of money as some self absorbed [...]
